New Glarus woke up Sunday morning under dangerously cold conditions as an arctic air mass settled over southern Wisconsin, pushing wind chills to life-threatening levels across Green County and the region.

As of early Sunday, temperatures hovered near minus 6 degrees, with wind chills approaching 25 degrees below zero. The National Weather Service issued a Cold Weather Advisory for Green County and surrounding areas, warning that exposed skin could develop frostbite in as little as 30 minutes.
