A partner in farming in Washington Township for more than three decades, she balanced barn chores with books, travel and cards, returning always to Monticello, where faith, family and community shaped her days.

Audrey L. Saxer, age 91, of Monticello, died Saturday, February 14, 2026 at the New Glarus Home. Audrey was born on May 3, 1934 on the Duerst home farm, the daughter of Herbert and Edrie (Freitag) Duerst. She graduated from New Glarus High School in 1952 and was united in marriage to Edwin Saxer on April 20, 1956 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello. 

Audrey farmed alongside her husband in Washington Township from 1959 until 1993. She enjoyed the outdoors, spending many hours in the vegetable garden and strawberry patch. She was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, playing cards, bowling, and never turned down a game of euchre. She and Edwin loved to travel, especially to Switzerland, the Caribbean, and all across the states. Above all she loved time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
