Tornado Watch, Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued for New Glarus
Fast-moving storms from Iowa pushed into southern Wisconsin this evening, prompting a tornado watch until 8 p.m. and a severe thunderstorm warning for Green County with possible tornadoes and wind gusts up to 70 mph.
UPDATE: At 6:46 p.m., the worst of the storm has straddled New Glarus it seems.

UPDATE: At 6:35 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a new severe thunderstorm warning until 7:15 p.m. for northern Green County, southeastern Iowa County and western Dane County, and the warning area now has expanded beyond New Glarus into Dane County. The updated bulletin said the storms were moving northeast at 50 mph and could produce 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, while the broader tornado watch remained in effect until 8 p.m. for Green, Dane, Iowa, Lafayette, Columbia and Rock counties.
A tornado watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday for southwestern to east-central Wisconsin, and Green County was placed under a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:45 p.m. as a fast-moving line of storms raced northeast from Iowa.
The National Weather Service said the storms could produce tornadoes, damaging winds and large hail. At 6:15 p.m., radar indicated severe thunderstorms capable of 70 mph wind gusts stretching from near Warren to near Nora to near Pearl City to near Shannon and moving northeast at about 60 mph.
In addition to New Glarus, communities listed in the warning include Monroe, Brodhead, Monticello, Argyle, South Wayne, Browntown, Juda, Woodford and Jordan Center. The Weather Service also warned that tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms and urged people to move to a basement or a small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building if needed.
The warning said considerable tree damage was possible, and that mobile homes, roofs and outbuildings could also be damaged. Residents in New Glarus and across Green County should remain alert through the evening as the storm line continues moving quickly northeast.
