Warm, dry and windy conditions are expected in New Glarus today, creating an elevated risk for fires across Green County, according to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan.

PUBLIC PREVIEW

Wind gusts in Green County are expected to reach as high as 45 miles per hour between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday. A Wind Advisory remains in effect for Green County during that time

The combination of very low humidity and gusty winds has prompted a Special Weather Statement highlighting elevated fire weather conditions across much of southern Wisconsin

Burning is strongly discouraged during the late morning and afternoon hours. Officials warn that fires can spread quickly under these conditions, especially in grassy or open areas where vegetation remains dry.

In addition to the fire risk, gusty winds may blow around unsecured outdoor objects, bring down small tree limbs and cause isolated power outages

Drivers, particularly those operating high-profile vehicles, are urged to use extra caution on area roadways.

Snow chances are expected to return to the region Thursday night into Friday
