Strong winds that moved into New Glarus Thursday night are expected to continue through much of Friday morning, with the National Weather Service warning that gusts up to 60 mph are possible in southwest Wisconsin before conditions gradually ease later in the day. New Glarus remains under a High Wind Warning until 4 p.m. Friday, with damaging winds capable of bringing down trees and power lines and making travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

In New Glarus, the weather was already being felt overnight. Power reportedly flickered on and off four or five times beginning around 11:30 p.m. Village of New Glarus Administrator Kelsey Jenson said Friday morning that village linemen are monitoring the situation and were out checking conditions. She said the flickering lights were fairly normal and a sign the system is doing its job in terms of reliability and system protection. She also said there was a brief outage at Prairie House that has since been restored. Others reported hearing what sounded like electrical arcing downtown during the night as the flickering occurred.
