From The Farm to the World Stage: Dan Zimmerman of New Glarus
From growing up on a Green County farm to representing Wisconsin agriculture on a global stage, Dan Zimmerman’s journey reflects deep New Glarus roots, public service, and a lifelong commitment to community and heritage.
Dan Zimmerman has lived and worked across the world, but New Glarus has never stopped feeling like home.
A 1982 graduate of New Glarus High School, Zimmerman built a career at the intersection of medicine, science, and global insurance. Today, he serves in senior leadership roles with RGA Reinsurance Company, advises on public health issues affecting mortality worldwide, and chairs the board of the Swiss Center of North America. Yet his roots in Green County still shape how he sees the world.
“I always remember thinking we lived someplace special,” Zimmerman said of growing up in New Glarus. “Yes, we were one of countless small towns in America, but we were different and particularly proud of our heritage.”
