Glarner Knights Girls Push No. 7 Platteville to the Wire
New Glarus went toe-to-toe with Division 3 No. 7 Platteville for 36 minutes, matching the Hillmen in effort and poise before late turnovers proved the difference in a 60-55 loss.
The New Glarus Glarner Knights varsity girls basketball team went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the state Saturday afternoon, trading blows with the No. 7 ranked Division 3 Platteville Hillmen before falling 60-55 in a nonconference matinee at the New Glarus High School gymnasium. For long stretches, the Knights looked every bit like equals against a Hillmen team that entered the day 9-2 and fresh off one of the toughest schedules in Division 3.
The matchup was the early match in a rare girls-boys doubleheader and it came in the middle of a demanding three-game stretch for New Glarus, which faced ranked Barneveld earlier in the week and heads to No. 2 Division 5 Argyle-Pecatonica next. Despite the final score, Saturday’s performance offered clear signs of growth for a Knights squad that refused to be intimidated by Platteville’s size, pressure, or ranking.
