Hadestown Comes to New Glarus High School This Weekend

New Glarus High School students will bring Hadestown: Teen Edition to the stage this weekend in a spring musical that promises romance, heartbreak, spectacle and one of the most celebrated scores in modern musical theater. Performances are set for Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, at 7 p.m., with a Sunday, March 22, matinee at 2 p.m. at New Glarus High School.

For audiences who may know the title but not the story, Hadestown offers far more than a familiar trip through Greek mythology. The musical intertwines the story of young lovers Orpheus (played by Donnie Umhoefer) and Eurydice (Nala Williams) with the stormier, older relationship of Hades (Jackson Umhoefer) and Persephone (June Endicott), creating a world of song, longing, temptation and hard choices. It is a show about love under pressure, hope in dark places, and whether beauty and belief can survive in a harsh world. Jenna Heil as Hermes, Lizzie Smith, AJ Fleener, and Dylan Gardner also play key characters in the show. Many other students play musical ensembles and contribute behind scenes, each playing a key role making the production possible.
