Incumbents Hold New Glarus School Board Seats
Unofficial spring election results in New Glarus showed school board incumbents surviving a challenge, Town of New Glarus voters returning Mark Pernitz and Dan Gartzke, and several closely watched county board races turning heads.
Three incumbents appeared to win re-election to the New Glarus School Board on Tuesday night, with unofficial combined results from Green and Dane counties showing Cassie Ballweg with 1,071 votes, Heather Thornton with 1,033 and Casey McCoy with 1,019. Challenger Mindy Marty finished with 795. The race was the most closely watched local contest of the night because it was the only New Glarus race with more candidates than seats. Green County’s final unofficial report showed Ballweg with 988, Thornton with 960, McCoy with 937 and Marty with 730, while the Dane County portion added 83 votes for Ballweg, 73 for Thornton, 82 for McCoy and 65 for Marty.
The school board race also produced some of the night’s suspense. An earlier Green County report showed lower totals, and Dane County results had not yet been added, creating a moving picture before the final combined numbers settled in later in the evening. Green County school board totals rose significantly between the earlier 9:14:08 p.m. snapshot and the final unofficial report posted at 9:54:45 p.m.
