He returned home from the Air Force to run the family service station in Monticello, where he became a familiar face to generations of customers and remained devoted to his work, family and community.

Irving Kubly "Jerry", age 79, of Monticello, passed away peacefully with his wife Jeanne by his side on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Pleasant View Nursing Home.

He was born on June 29, 1946, the son of Francis and Orpha Kubly. He attended Monticello High School and went on to join the United States Air Force, where he was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Nebraska. He was called home from service to take over the operation of the DX Service Station after his stepfather, Herman Schlittler, passed away suddenly. Jerry worked many long hours from the beginning, and even near the end, he was still working 60 hours a week. Jerry was united in marriage to Jeanne Elmer on August 6, 1966 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
