Kenneth R. “Swede” Schulz, Farmer and School Bus Driver, Dies at 86
Schulz farmed in Illinois and Wisconsin before serving local school districts as a custodian and bus driver, building a quiet legacy rooted in work, family, and community.

Kenneth R. “Swede” Schulz, age 86, of New Glarus, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026. He was born January 12, 1940, in Harvard, Ill., the son of Fred and Helen (DeVries) Schulz.
Kenneth grew up on the family farm near Hebron, Ill., and graduated from Alden-Hebron High School in 1958. He began farming with his parents in 1959. In 1972, he moved his family to a farm in Kittleson Valley near Mount Horeb. Due to health reasons, he retired from farming in 1987 and began working as a custodian and school bus driver for the Mount Horeb Area School District. He also drove bus for the New Glarus School District for several years.
