Madox Mau Reaches State Semifinals for Sugar River Wrestling
The Belleville, Monticello and New Glarus cooperative sends two wrestlers to WIAA Individual State Tournament and sees freshman Madox Mau advance to Friday night’s semifinals and Nora Christensen battles in consolation rounds.
MADISON, Wis. — Sugar River Wrestling’s cooperative program representing Belleville, Monticello and New Glarus High Schools saw both of its state qualifiers compete Thursday at the WIAA Individual State Tournament, with one advancing to Friday night’s semifinals and the other moving into the consolation bracket.
Freshman Madox Mau, wrestling at 106 pounds in Division 2, opened his tournament with a first-round pin in 1:47 over Caden Bock of Freedom. Mau followed that up with a 5-1 decision over Ryan Gartman of Grafton in the quarterfinals, securing a spot in Friday evening’s semifinal round.
