Mid-January Spring Tease: New Glarus Hits Mid-50s Amid Rare Winter Warmth
New Glarus briefly felt like spring as temperatures surged into the mid-50s overnight, shattering January norms. Gusty winds, rain, and record-challenging warmth arrived — but winter is already moving back in.
In case you missed it overnight, temperatures in New Glarus soared into the mid-50s Fahrenheit during the early hours of Jan. 9, 2026—a remarkable departure from typical midwinter conditions in southern Wisconsin.

On Thursday, Jan. 8, New Glarus received about half an inch of rain as the warm front moved through, contributing to wet conditions amid the mild weather. Highs on Thursday topped out near 55°F, shattering the normal January high of around 27°F for the area.
