Monticello-New Glarus Softball Eyes Another Strong Season
With a young roster, six returning letter winners and four all-conference players back from last year, Monticello-New Glarus opens the 2026 softball season aiming to build on a third-place Six Rivers finish.
Monticello-New Glarus heads into the new varsity softball season with a mix of proven production and youthful depth, a combination coach Rick Monson believes could position the program well not only this spring, but over the next several years. Last season, Monticello-New Glarus finished 15-7 overall and 12-5 in conference play, good for third in the Six Rivers behind Belmont and Barneveld.
Monson said one of the biggest storylines entering the season is just how young this roster is. “The youth of our team is most noticeable,” Monson said in a user-supplied response. “Of the 18 players participating this year, 13 are freshman or sophomores.” Even with that youth, he said the program is not short on experience where it matters most, with six returning letter winners and four players who earned all-conference recognition a year ago.
