New Glarus Baseball Eyes Another Strong Spring Under Coach Eric Spanton
New Glarus returns a veteran core, several all-conference players and an aggressive lineup after a 2025 season that ended with a Capitol South title and a run to the WIAA regional final.
New Glarus heads into the 2026 baseball season with plenty of reason for optimism.
Coach Eric Spanton says the Glarner Knights bring back an experienced group led by four senior starters, including three players who earned some level of all-conference recognition last season. He also pointed to a strong sophomore class and a program culture that continues to build from top to bottom.
“The leadership from upperclassmen and captains is like no other program,” Spanton said. “Junior varsity and varsity practice together and the constant tutoring that is happening makes me proud of this program and the team first mentality.”
The Glarner Knights have earned the right to enter the season with high expectations. Last spring New Glarus finished 15-8 overall and 7-3 in the Capitol South at the top of the conference standings. The Glarners also won two WIAA tournament games before falling 4-2 to Fennimore in the regional final.
