New Glarus Brewing Company Taps Geothermal Energy
The $55 million Hilltop addition will double production capacity and introduce what leaders say is the first geothermal HVAC system of its kind in New Glarus, possibly Green County.
The New Glarus Brewing Company expansion now rising above the village skyline will do more than increase brewing capacity. It will also introduce a large-scale geothermal heating and cooling system — the first large-scale commercial geothermal system in New Glarus (and possibly Green County, too).
Construction on the 65,000-square-foot, four-story addition began in October 2024 and is expected to be completed in early 2027. The project includes a new brewing area that will double production capacity, a distillery, expanded tasting room, new parking lot and beer garden. During construction, the Hilltop facility remains closed to the public, with the original Riverside brewery serving as the temporary tasting room.
