New Glarus Hotel Visionary Who Built a Legacy of Warmth and Hospitality Dies at 77
Hans Alois Lenzlinger of New Glarus died November 25, 2025. A Swiss-born chef and restaurateur, he helped shape New Glarus hospitality and was remembered for his generosity, family devotion, and love of community.
Hans Alois Lenzlinger, beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in New Glarus, Wisconsin surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. He was born on December 17, 1947, in St. Gallen, Switzerland to Alois & Rosa (Bissig) Lenzlinger.
Hans grew up in the family-run Hotel/Pension Alpina in Unterwasser, SG, where he spent much of his youth skiing, eventually becoming a ski instructor. At the age of 16, he began his lifelong culinary journey through an apprenticeship that would shape his career and passion.
