New Glarus Police Report Details Busy December, Holiday Events
Calls for service climbed sharply in December as police handled holiday events, traffic enforcement, neighborhood disputes and several investigations across the village.
The New Glarus Police Department responded to 414 calls for service in December, a significant increase from 276 during the same month last year, according to the monthly report submitted by Police Chief Jeff Sturdevant on Jan. 7. The December total brought the department’s year-to-date calls for service to 4,948, exceeding the 4,558 calls recorded during all of 2024.
Traffic and parking enforcement activity increased during the month. Officers issued 38 traffic citations and 74 warnings, while parking citations rose sharply to 146, compared with just eight in December 2024. Police responded to three traffic accidents during the month, one more than the same period last year. No individuals were incarcerated or jailed during December.
