New Glarus School Board Approves Garage Bid, Other Business
The New Glarus school board on Monday approved a maintenance garage project, adopted a new social studies sequence, approved three student trips and heard early signs of possible tax-base gains from a closed tax incremental district (TID).
The School District of New Glarus Board of Education moved quickly through its Monday, March 16, meeting, approving the consent agenda, a maintenance garage bid, a revised social studies curriculum sequence and several student travel requests before adjourning at 7:35 p.m. The meeting was held in a hybrid format after the day’s blizzard warning, with some members attending remotely.
The evening began on an unusual note, with the board president acknowledging the weather-related format change. “We’re in a little bit different situation than we normally are, because a blizzard warning expired a little bit earlier this afternoon,” New Glarus School Board President Bill Oemichen said, asking members and viewers to “bear with us as we work out the electronic side of this board meeting.” A planned preview of the high school musical Hadestown was canceled because of the snow day, though the district noted there were still tickets available for this weekend’s performances.
