New Glarus Glarner Knights Push Rival Belleville to the Brink in Overtime Thriller
The Glarner Knights erased a double-digit second-half deficit, forced overtime in dramatic fashion and went shot-for-shot with rival Belleville before free throws proved the difference in a tense border rivalry showdown.
BELLEVILLE, Wis. – A rivalry game worthy of the border it straddles delivered every bit of drama Friday night, as the New Glarus Glarner Knights varsity girls basketball team pushed Belleville to the limit before falling 47-43 in overtime in a Capitol-South Conference showdown at Belleville High School.
Separated by Highway 69 and the county line, the two programs entered the night with identical 7-6 overall records, and the tension showed from the opening tip. New Glarus struck first and set a physical tone defensively, but Belleville used its strength inside to build an early lead and took a 21-11 advantage into halftime.
