Sugar River Wrestling Coach Peter Swenson Reaches 100th Dual Win at Verona
Sugar River wrestling coach Peter Swenson reached a major milestone Tuesday night, earning his 100th career dual win — but he says the relationships built along the way matter far more than the number.
VERONA, Wis. – Sugar River wrestling head coach Peter Swenson reached a major milestone Tuesday night, earning the 100th dual-meet victory of his career as the Raiders defeated Brodhead at a nonconference dual held at Verona Area High School. Swenson, a science teacher who works daily with students in the classroom as well as on the mat, leads the Sugar River wrestling cooperative representing Belleville, New Glarus and Monticello.
Swenson downplayed the number itself and instead pointed to the people behind the program as the true measure of success, noting that his role as a teacher has shaped the way he approaches coaching and relationships within the program.
