Chris Narveson has resigned as chairman of the Town of New Glarus Board, ending more than a decade in the town’s top elected position following his conviction in a misdemeanor campaign sign theft case.

Narveson’s resignation was announced Wednesday night during the Town Board meeting, one day after he was sentenced in Green County Circuit Court on misdemeanor convictions for theft and obstructing an officer. Town Board Supervisor Matt Streiff will at least temporarily assume the position of town chair.

Narveson submitted a resignation letter that Streiff read aloud at the start of Wednesday night’s meeting. In the letter, Narveson said he was resigning as Town of New Glarus chair effective Sept. 9, 2026, because it had become difficult for him to now serve the community effectively in the position. He said he believed he could still contribute to the community in other ways, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and closed the letter, “With gratitude, Chris Narveson.”

Narveson had served on the Town Board for nearly 20 years and had been chairman since 2015. He also serves as Green County highway commissioner.
