Community Raises $39,000 as Sophie Faces Long Recovery
Supporters have raised about $39,000 for New Glarus High School student Sophie Vasquez, who remains seriously injured after a July 7 crash near Monroe. Her family says the road ahead will be long and is asking the community for continued help.

The New Glarus community has raised more than $39,000 for high school student Sophie Vasquez as her family prepares for what it says will be a long recovery following a serious car crash near Monroe.
Sophie, 16, remains hospitalized at American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison after being seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday, July 7, near the intersection of Franklin and Bethel roads.
Her aunt, Christina Murphy Alchus, shared an update Thursday thanking friends, relatives and community members for the financial support, prayers and assistance provided since the crash.
“The outpouring of love and the (money) raised so far have left our entire family completely speechless,” Alchus wrote.
