Dan Ziegler Is Still Holding Court
The longtime New Glarus agriculture teacher, FFA advisor, volunteer and World Euchre Championship emcee now lives in Sun Prairie, but his heart and history remain deeply rooted in the village.
For 36 years, Dan Ziegler belonged to New Glarus in the way only certain teachers, volunteers and community characters ever really do.
To generations of students, he was Mr. Ziegler, or Ziggy, the agriculture teacher and FFA advisor who seemed to be everywhere: in the classroom, on the bus, behind a microphone, at a banquet, helping with a fundraiser, announcing at the fair, working with the Lions Club, keeping an event moving or wearing something shiny enough to be seen from the back row.
Next week, when the fourth annual World Euchre Championship sponsored by Bicycle Cards returns to New Glarus, Ziegler will again step into one of his more recent roles: “Grand Poobah” of the World Euchre Federation and emcee of the World Euchre Championship.
