Dorflinde Tavern Sign Marks New Chapter

As Oktoberfest weekend arrives in New Glarus, Ott Haus has officially become Dorflinde Tavern, giving new owners Jake Blumer and Hallie Weintraub their first major festival under a new name, a new sign and a refreshed local gathering place. More photos inside.

Dorflinde Tavern Sign Marks New Chapter

A new sign went up Wednesday afternoon at the former Ott Haus, officially marking the next chapter for one of downtown New Glarus’ longtime tavern spaces.

The business is now Dorflinde Tavern, a name new owners Jake Blumer and Hallie Weintraub chose as a nod to the old European idea of the village linden tree — a central gathering place for neighbors, festivals and community life.

The change comes about a month after Blumer and Weintraub assumed ownership of the bar at 406 2nd St., and just ahead of Oktoberfest weekend, their first major New Glarus festival since taking over.

Blumer said the timing is part celebration, part work in progress. The new sign is going up now, while a formal ribbon cutting may wait until after the rush of Oktoberfest settles.
