First Photos from Jodlerfest Trip to Switzerland
Members of the New Glarus Jodlerklub are beginning to arrive in Switzerland ahead of this week's Eidgenössisches Jodlerfest in Basel, one of the world's largest celebrations of Swiss yodeling and folk traditions.
Members of the New Glarus Jodlerklub are already exploring Switzerland as they prepare for the 32nd Eidgenössisches Jodlerfest, Switzerland's national yodeling festival, which begins later this week in Basel.
The New Glarus group will send 14 singers to the festival, where they are scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Friday, June 26, at Marienkirche in Basel. The event, held every three years, draws yodelers, alphorn players and flag throwers from across Switzerland and around the world.
For now, however, many participants are scattered across Europe before gathering in Basel later this week.
Bobbie Bernet, whose husband Hans Bernet is a member of the Jodlerklub contingent, said they almost all are going separately and will meet together in Basel before the competition.
