Four Town of New Glarus residents — Judith Blank, Alex Esser, Rob Ready and Jane Elmer — have asked to be considered for the open supervisor seat on the Town Board, giving the board four candidates to review as it completes a leadership transition that began earlier this month.
The vacancy was created when the board appointed Matt Streiff as town chair at a Sept. 21 special meeting. Streiff moved into the chair position after Chris Narveson resigned effective Sept. 9, leaving Streiff's former supervisor seat open.
Wisconsin law provides that a vacancy on a town board is filled by the remaining supervisors and the town clerk. An appointee generally serves the remainder of the unexpired term unless a special election is ordered under circumstances allowed by state law.
The town has not yet posted an October agenda identifying the appointment as an action item. Regular Town Board meetings have been held on the second Wednesday of the month, which would put the next regular meeting on Oct. 14, but the date on which the board will consider the four applicants has not yet been formally confirmed. The town says regular board meetings are now held at the new Town Garage, N8799 Hayes Lane.
