GCDC Fall Breakfast to Examine Aging, Wealth Transfer

Green County leaders will gather in New Glarus on Oct. 15 to look beyond the familiar story of an aging population and examine what happens as generations change, wealth changes hands and communities decide how to prepare for both shifts.

GCDC Fall Breakfast to Examine Aging, Wealth Transfer

Green County Development Corporation will host its Annual Fall Breakfast from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at Edelweiss Chalet Country Club in New Glarus, with a panel focused on how Green County can prepare for an aging population and a major generational transfer of wealth.

The discussion will bring together representatives from the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin and Forward Analytics, the research arm of the Wisconsin Counties Association. GCDC Executive Director Olivia Otte will moderate, with time set aside for questions from attendees.

Organizers say the conversation is intended to move beyond the basic fact that Green County is getting older. The panel is expected to examine where wealth may go as it passes from one generation to the next, which parts of the local economy and community may feel demographic change first, and what other communities are doing to adapt.

“Most people in this room already know our population is aging, we’re not here to repeat that,” Otte said in announcing the event. She said the goal is to focus instead on how the demographic shift and transfer of wealth are unfolding at the same time, and what Green County can do to prepare.
