Harvest Fest Returns to Swiss Historical Village

The Swiss Historical Village & Museum will welcome visitors for its annual Harvest Fest on Sunday, Oct. 11, offering a day of hands-on activities, traditional crafts and opportunities to learn more about the history of New Glarus.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Swiss Historical Village, 612 7th Ave. Organizers describe this year’s Harvest Fest as a family-friendly event, with special activities planned for children and old-time craft demonstrations throughout the grounds.

Harvest Fest has grown over the years from an event centered on a single cheesemaking demonstration into one of the museum’s largest annual events. This year’s demonstrations and exhibits will include blacksmithing, rope making, weaving, rug and broom making, sauerkraut making, beekeeping, brätzli making, handle making, carving and scherenschnitte, the traditional Swiss art of paper cutting.

Music and entertainment will also be part of the day, with performances by the New Glarus Männerchor, New Glarus Jodlerklub, New Glarus Kinderchor and Damian Babler.
