Historic New Glarus Hotel Artifacts Go on Sale
As restoration work continues at the historic New Glarus Hotel & Restaurant, owners are offering a rare opportunity to purchase original furnishings, artwork, bells, signs and other artifacts that have been part of the landmark property for decades.
The restoration of the historic New Glarus Hotel & Restaurant is creating a rare opportunity this weekend for residents, collectors and longtime visitors to take home a piece of one of the village’s most recognizable landmarks.
Select artifacts from the hotel, including Swiss chairs, old cow bells, Swiss-themed art, vintage signs, St. Moritz bells, booths, stemware and glasses once used at the hotel, will be available for purchase at The Alpine during Polkafest and Beer, Bacon & Cheese festival weekend.
Some of the pieces have been part of the building for many years, and Christina Bleifuss, managing member and president of New Glarus Hotel & Restaurant, said the goal is to see them find new homes rather than sit in storage.
“I would hate to just let them live in a storage unit or throw them,” Bleifuss said. “All the proceeds will go to the restoration project.”
