Larry Daehn, the longtime New Glarus High School band director whose music career eventually reached concert halls far beyond Wisconsin, will celebrate his 87th birthday on May 10.
For many in New Glarus, Daehn is remembered first as a teacher — the person in the band room who expected students to listen closely, practice carefully, stay in beat (oh, that damn metronome) and discover what they were capable of doing together.
