Lions Club Proposes Accessible Viewing Deck at Village Park

The New Glarus Lions Club is proposing a new raised viewing platform at Village Park designed to provide better access for people with disabilities during concerts and other activities near the gazebo.

The proposal is scheduled for consideration and discussion by the Village of New Glarus Parks & Recreation Committee when it meets Wednesday, Aug. 12. The project would also revamp the existing Ron Martinson Memorial Gazebo, which was previously developed as a Lions Club project.

Under the preliminary concept, a sidewalk spur would lead to a raised concrete viewing platform. Plans call for the platform to be elevated approximately 15 inches at the front and 9 inches along the sides, with a railing and a 15- to 20-inch flower bed separating portions of the concrete pad from surrounding block pavers.
