Matterhorn Ice Cream & Grill is now open in downtown New Glarus, but the bigger date now on the calendar is Friday, June 26, when the business will hold its formal grand opening at the former Kennedy’s location at 400 Railroad St.

Owned by Sheri Wichser and her family, the business has been preparing for opening for weeks. Wichser said the family has spent its time cleaning, painting and getting the property ready for customers, while building toward the official grand opening later this month.

For now, Matterhorn is open Thursday through Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Wichser said the business is focusing on window service and outdoor seating through the summer.
