Matterhorn Ice Cream & Grill Shares Its New Menu in New Glarus
Matterhorn Ice Cream & Grill has unveiled a menu that blends familiar ice cream stand staples with new house touches, including specialty burgers, family-recipe barbecue, Chocolate Shoppe ice cream, and several locally sourced ingredients.
Matterhorn Ice Cream & Grill shared its new menu this week, giving New Glarus customers a clearer look at what owner Sheri Wichser and her family are bringing to the former Kennedy’s location at 400 Railroad St. The newly released menu keeps many of the familiar hallmarks while adding several new touches and more personality of its own.
From the grill, the menu leads with three signature items: The Matterhorn Classic Cheeseburger for $9.50, The Summit Cheeseburger for $11.50 with thick-cut bacon, and The Snow Melt for $10.50, served with Swiss cheese and sauteed onions on marble rye. The menu says burgers and sandwiches are made to order and served with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and homemade sauce, with beef sourced from Boley Beef and formed into one-third-pound patties. Customers can also choose from cheeses including Baby Swiss, dill Havarti, cheddar, Habanero Farmers, Havarti, Muenster, and smoked Gouda.
The broader sandwich menu also shows where Matterhorn is starting to carve out its own identity. Among the options are a barbecue sandwich for $7 described as “a favorite recipe in our family,” plus a black bean burger, BLT, chili dog, grilled cheese, grilled chicken breast, salmon burger, and chicken bacon ranch wrap. In her earlier interview, Wichser said there would be “nothing real new” at first, but noted that sloppy joes were being replaced by barbecue and that the business was looking at expanding its grilled cheese offerings.
