Mount Vernon Fall Fest Brings Homecoming Back Saturday
Forest of Fame Park will host a full day of family activities, live music and international tug-of-war Saturday, continuing a Mount Vernon tradition that reaches back more than a century, and remains closely tied to the historic park.
MOUNT VERNON, Wis. — Mount Vernon will bring its fall homecoming back to Forest of Fame Park on Saturday, Oct. 3, with a day of family activities, live music and an international tug-of-war competition. The fifth annual Mt. Vernon Fest runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 1689 Washington St.
Tug-of-war is expected to be one of the biggest draws. Mt. Vernon Tug of War says visiting pullers are expected from Canada, Northern Ireland and Sweden, along with teams from surrounding Midwest states. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with exhibition pulls also planned between local area EMS and fire department teams.
The festival is organized as a cooperative effort involving the Mount Vernon Park Association, Mt. Vernon Tug of War and Deer Creek Sports & Conservation Club. Organizers say children’s activities will be free, while refreshments will be available from the concession stand and live music will follow the daytime activities.
The annual festival grew out of Mount Vernon’s long tradition of community celebrations. The village marked milestone anniversaries with festivals in 1971, 1996 and 2021. After the 2021 celebration drew friends and families back to the community, organizers decided to continue the idea as an annual fall gathering.
