New Glarus Brewing Company Founded on This Day in 1993
Founded on April 20, 1993, New Glarus Brewing Company grew from a converted warehouse into one of Wisconsin’s best-known breweries and a defining part of New Glarus business history.
On this day in 1993, New Glarus Brewing Company was founded in New Glarus, beginning a business story that would grow into one of the best-known names in Wisconsin beer. According to the brewery itself, Dan and Deb Carey launched the company at its original Riverside location after transforming an abandoned warehouse into a working brewery.
What began as a small local operation soon became something much bigger for the village, helping turn New Glarus into a destination for beer lovers from across Wisconsin and beyond. The brewery remains independently owned, and its beer is still sold only in Wisconsin, a choice that helped shape its identity over the years.
