New Glarus Football Opens a New Chapter
Practice opened Tuesday as New Glarus begins its first football season in the SWAL, carrying momentum from a historic 2025 playoff run into a demanding schedule this fall that includes defending WIAA Division 6 state champion Darlington.
The New Glarus Glarner Knights officially returned to the football field Tuesday, Aug. 4, opening practice for a 2026 season that will bring new challenges, new destinations and a completely new conference schedule.
Head coach DJ Schuett and the Glarner Knights enter the season hoping to build on one of the most successful campaigns in program history. New Glarus finished 10-2 last fall, won a conference championship and advanced to Level 3 of the WIAA Division 5 playoffs, farther than any other New Glarus team had gone before.
The historic run helped raise expectations around the program, but this year’s team will have its own identity. New Glarus graduated several important contributors from last season, including quarterback Matt Roth, running back Milo Johnson and leading receiver Will Pinnow.
