New Glarus High School had the fourth-highest University of Wisconsin-Madison access rate among Wisconsin public high schools for the 2024-25 graduating class, according to data released by University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The district reported that 21.3% of New Glarus High School graduates accessed UW-Madison, meaning they went on to attend the university. Only three public high schools in the state had higher rates: Granton at 28.6%, Gibraltar at 25.6% and Middleton at 21.8%.

“This is an excellent accomplishment for our students and a reflection of the opportunities and preparation they receive at New Glarus High School,” Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Thayer said in the district’s announcement.

The percentage is based on the number of graduates from each high school who went on to attend UW-Madison, rather than simply the number who applied or were admitted. The district said the 21.3% rate placed New Glarus among the top public high schools in Wisconsin by that measure.
