Construction at the New Glarus Hotel & Restaurant is moving into its finishing stages, with owners now working through flooring, fixtures, equipment and operating plans as the historic property approaches a long-awaited reopening later this fall.
Dan Roe, one of the principal owners, said he and managing member Christina Bleifuss have remained focused on the project’s original vision despite the complexity of restoring a building dating to 1853: a boutique hotel upstairs, a Wisconsin supper club with Alpine influences on the main floor, live entertainment and a revived gathering place for New Glarus.
“This is coming, and it’s going to be well worth the wait,” Roe said. “The amount of detail that’s been put into it and thought to bring this thing back” has been extensive.
One of the biggest visible changes recently has been the removal of the enclosure around the upper porch, exposing the open-air space envisioned in early renderings. Roe said the underlying structure was in good condition, and a company from Argyle has completed work on the porch floor.
