Twenty houses and apartments scattered across New Glarus have been cleared to welcome overnight visitors during the coming year, giving the village an updated picture of the short-term rentals operating within its borders.

The list does more than identify where visitors may be staying. It offers a snapshot of how short-term rentals have become part of New Glarus’ lodging mix, while raising broader questions being discussed in tourist communities across Wisconsin and beyond about housing, neighborhood impacts, local regulation and how communities balance the needs of residents with the demand created by visitors.

The properties, shown on the map below, are located within the incorporated village. The list does not include short-term rentals in the Town of New Glarus, elsewhere in Green County or nearby communities.

Short-term rentals, frequently advertised through services such as Airbnb and Vrbo, generally provide overnight accommodations for fewer than 30 consecutive days. In New Glarus, the permitted properties are generally locally owned and consist primarily of houses or upper-level apartments in existing buildings.
