New Glarus Marks Arbor Day With a Look at Its Trees
New Glarus has spent decades building and caring for its public tree canopy through the Tree City USA program, and that work will continue May 1 when New Glarus FFA members help plant trees around the community.
Arbor Day arrives Friday with New Glarus once again able to point to one of the quieter but more visible parts of community life: the trees that line streets, shade parks and help define the village’s appearance through every season.
New Glarus has long been part of the Tree City USA program, a national recognition created by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters. On its forester page, the Village of New Glarus says it was named a 2019 Tree City USA community and that the recognition marked the 24th year the village had received the honor.
