New Glarus-Monticello Cross Country Sets Sights High
With a deep girls roster, an experienced boys core and several promising newcomers, coach Dennis Haak believes New Glarus-Monticello can contend for Capitol Conference titles and put itself in position to send runners to state this fall.
Expectations are rising for the New Glarus-Monticello cross country program as it prepares for a season coach Dennis Haak believes could put both the girls and boys teams in contention for conference championships and state appearances.
NGM enters its second season competing in the Capitol Conference North after moving from the South last year, a change that brought larger schools and a tougher conference schedule. This time around, Haak believes his teams are better positioned to challenge that competition.
“I have high expectations for both teams this season,” Haak said. “Everything is pointing to having a super fun and competitive squad of athletes.”
Haak believes both squads have the potential to make a run at a Capitol Conference championship while putting themselves in position to reach the WIAA state meet.
The girls will have to replace Molly Olson, last year’s top runner and a state qualifier, but return much of the lineup that ran behind her.
