New Glarus Oktoberfest Returns Sept. 24-27
Four days of live music, local beer, Swiss and German food, wagon rides and family activities return to downtown New Glarus Sept. 24-27, with free festival admission and two ceremonial wooden-keg tappings beneath the First Street tent.
New Glarus will once again welcome visitors for four days of beer, music, food and Swiss-flavored fall fun when Oktoberfest returns to the downtown festival tent Thursday, Sept. 24, through Sunday, Sept. 27.
Admission is free throughout the weekend. The festival combines traditional Oktoberfest touches — including dirndls, lederhosen, polka music and wooden kegs — with country, rock and other live music, local food, craft vendors and activities for children.
The main tent will be located on First Street, but the celebration extends throughout downtown as visitors explore the village’s shops, restaurants and taverns. New Glarus Brewing Co. beer will be served in the festival area, including its seasonal Staghorn Octoberfest.
The festival begins Thursday with Dirndl Day, encouraging guests to wear traditional Oktoberfest attire. The beer tent will be open from 6 to 10 p.m., accompanied by polka music from the Steve Meisner Legacy Band. An Oktoberfest king and queen contest begins at 8:30 p.m., with cash prizes and free beer offered to the winners.
