The School District of New Glarus is joining eight other area districts this week in recognizing the work of local school board members during Wisconsin School Board Appreciation Week, which runs Oct. 4-10.

District administrators from Albany, Belleville, Black Hawk, Brodhead, Juda, Monroe, Monticello, New Glarus and Parkview are participating in the recognition, honoring board members for the time, leadership and commitment they give to students, families, staff and their communities.

The nine administrators said school board members spend significant time studying education issues and regulations, making difficult decisions and working to ensure students have opportunities to learn and succeed. They also pointed to boards' roles in setting district goals, monitoring progress and supporting safe learning environments.

School boards also help build partnerships with families and community organizations and promote continuous improvement by reviewing results, asking questions and refining district practices, according to the joint statement.
