The New Glarus School Board approved an update to its student drug and alcohol policy Monday night, reviewed student intervention data and heard that the closure of a Village of New Glarus Tax Incremental District should add property value back to the tax rolls and eventually provide excess funds to the district.
The board began its Sept. 28 meeting with a tour of Phase 2 of the Glarner Community Complex. After returning to the meeting, district officials said they were hoping the new bathrooms would be ready for Friday night's homecoming football game.
The board also reviewed the district's 2025-26 targeted intervention report. It showed 6.5% of students received intensive reading support, 4% received intensive math support, 6.4% received help with social, emotional, behavioral or attendance needs, and 3.5% received school-based mental health services. Special education interventions involved 12.9% of district enrollment.
District officials said the intervention numbers did not show any significant year-to-year jumps. They described the most intensive academic interventions as support for students who may be a year or more behind and said the district has been working to intervene earlier, particularly in reading, math and attendance.
