A Green County jury found Town of New Glarus Chair Chris Narveson guilty Friday on both misdemeanor charges stemming from the removal of an opponent’s campaign sign before the April 2025 election.

The jury convicted Narveson of theft of movable property valued at $2,500 or less and resisting or obstructing an officer, both Class A misdemeanors. Green County Circuit Court Judge Jane Bucher ordered judgments of conviction entered on both counts after the verdicts were returned.

Narveson, who also serves as Green County Highway Commissioner, was charged last October after investigators alleged he removed a campaign sign belonging to Rob Ready, who was challenging him for Town of New Glarus chair. New Glarus 360 reported at the time that a property owner told investigators he saw Narveson take the sign after declining Narveson’s request to place one of his own campaign signs on the property.

Narveson publicly denied the allegation before charges were filed. On March 28, 2025, while responding to accusations surrounding the missing sign, Narveson called the accusation “a blatant lie.”
