Rain Fails to Dampen New Glarus Firefest

Lingering showers gave way to sprinkles before the rain finally stopped Saturday, Aug. 1, as a remarkably large crowd gathered at the New Glarus fire station for the 2026 New Glarus Fire Department Firefest.

The damp start did little to discourage families and other visitors. Instead, the cooler weather provided a welcome reprieve from the recent heat as attendees enjoyed an afternoon of activities while supporting the community’s volunteer fire department.

Firetruck rides, an inflatable jump house moved indoors, an obstacle course, children’s water fights, a 4-H petting zoo and ice cream were among the attractions offered for younger visitors. An automobile extrication demonstration gave spectators a closer look at the equipment and techniques firefighters use during emergency responses.
