Rain, Heat Mark June Weather in New Glarus
New Glarus recorded 7.78 inches of rain in June, nearly double a typical month, while nearby communities also saw soaking totals before a late-month heat spell pushed southern Wisconsin into a hot and humid start to July weather pattern.
New Glarus ended June with 7.78 inches of rain, making the month a wet one by almost any local measure and leaving the area heading into July with saturated ground, fast-growing vegetation and a much different weather story than dry early summers of the past.
The total was nearly double what New Glarus might typically expect in June. Local climate summaries generally put average June rainfall for New Glarus in the range of about 3.7 to 4.2 inches, though long-term, official rainfall records for the village itself are harder to pin down because New Glarus does not have the same kind of long-running first-order weather station as larger cities.
The rain was not limited to New Glarus. Belleville was close behind at 7.73 inches, while Monticello reported 8.42 inches. Monroe came in higher at 9.31 inches, and Darlington topped the area totals provided with 10.29 inches.
