Rolli Sisters Grow Sweet Corn Into a Thriving Young Business
What began as a small 4-H project has become a thriving four-acre enterprise, with teenage sisters Belle and Stella Rolli growing thousands of ears of sweet corn, leading a young crew and building a business with roots across three communities.
The colorful Rolli Girls Good Corn stand is back along Highway 69 in New Glarus, stocked with fresh sweet corn and ready for another season.
What customers may not realize is that the business behind the roadside stand is owned and increasingly operated by two sisters who are still in school.
Belle Rolli, 16, and Stella Rolli, 13, started selling sweet corn in 2019. What began with perhaps one-quarter to one-half acre has grown into a four-acre operation expected to produce about 3,000 dozen ears of corn this season.
That is approximately 36,000 ears — all of which must be planted, fertilized, picked, transported, marketed and sold.
“It definitely has grown a ton since we first started,” Stella said.
