Sophie Vasquez Making Remarkable Progress in Recovery
Two months after a serious July crash, New Glarus High School student Sophie Vasquez is walking with a walker, preparing for discharge and working toward a return to school as her recovery continues with therapy and follow-up care.
New Glarus High School student Sophie Vasquez continues to make significant progress nearly two months after she was severely injured in a July 7 vehicle crash near Monroe.
Her mother, Vicki Vasquez, said Sophie is now walking with a walker, although she still tires and uses a wheelchair when needed. Recent full-body X-rays showed her injuries are healing well, and the family is now looking ahead to Sophie being discharged in early September.
“We have had amazing progress,” Vasquez said. “Sophie has beaten all the odds. She is so far along for two months out.”
Sophie, 16, was flown by MedFlight to American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison following the July 7 crash in the town of Clarno. She has remained in the hospital while undergoing treatment and rehabilitation for her injuries.
